CLIENT LOCATION: Elkridge, MD PRE THUD: Putting Miss Utility on the web actually started before THUD even existed. Founding Partner, Frank Memmo, was employed by the company that owns Miss Utility and worked closely with the IT Director. The two of us had a vision for Miss Utility that the Executives just couldn't grasp; of course these discussions were starting in the mid 1990s when the Internet was just becoming a household name. Executives couldn't get past the fact that a web site would probably not MAKE them a profit. We had our work cut out for us; we knew this call center HAD to be online. After many hours, days and weeks of talking, it struck us. Walking through the 24-hour call center of approximately 60 operators, it entered our minds - the amount of money it was taking to keep those lights on, all those computers connected to that mainframe, and all those salaries that had to be paid. It was this project that taught us what kind of money can be SAVED by having a good web site. POST THUD: Currently, Miss Utility is on Version 2.0 of the web site. Through this site, you can search tens of millions of records that cater to Utility Companies, Contractors and even Homeowners. There are extensive reporting features built in for administrative purposes, as well as, functionality to support all the Committees that operate through the center. These Committees can login and review minutes, as well as view attendee lists. Miss Utility is mandated by Maryland State Law, perhaps you have heard, "Call Before You Dig, It's The Law." So every record is mission critical. We moved their web server in house, and data is fed through firewalls over a VPN to the Internet. Their Mission Critical data is very secure, and readily available - a combination that not many companies can accommodate.
